Born and raised in Houston, TX, Alexander Drecun attended St. Thomas' Episcopal where he defended for the varsity soccer team, played the bagpipes with its World Champion bagpipe band, and did not study photography. In 2004, he moved to Los Angeles to attend Occidental College, receiving a B.A. in Art History and Visual Arts (film emphasis) and a minor in English and Contemporary Literary Studies. During his time there, he took only one class in photography, and, upon graduating, was not advised to become a photographer. To date, he has somewhat followed this lack of advice, having taken a great many photos and having sold very few.
And he has thoroughly enjoyed himself.
